Starting Colts and Developing the Young Horse are two experiential courses in MSU's Equine Science Program that train students on the principles and techniques of starting and training young horses.

Starting Colts (EQUH 253): Students in the Starting Colts course feed, care for and train colts while learning and developing horsemanship.

Developing the Young Horse (EQUH 256): In the Developing the Young Horse course, students concentrate on fine tuning horsemanship and training techniques/methods, as well as developing a deeper understanding of equine behavior. This course also includes training methods on how to finish a horse.
